John Donelson was a founder of Nashville. He came from Virginia with his wife and they had 11 children. A Native American killed john. She decided to take in boarders (pensionistas). Jackson shared a cabin withanother lawyer called John Overton. They formed a lifelong friendship and later Overton became one of Jackson’s earliest backers for the presidency.
John Donelson’s widow (viuda) had a daughter named Rachel who was born in 1767. They fall in love in Natchez, although they didn’t show their love openly because she was still married. When he left her in Natchez and headed back to Nashville, theyagreed that if they had the chance, they will in the future get married.
After Robards asked for the divorce, Andrew asked Donelson’s widow if he could marriage her daughter. He rushed back to Natchez and married Rachel, and then toy returned to Nashville.
They married again in January 24, 1794
In 1794, the court heard 397 cases; Jackson appeared in 288 of them. He usually took his fees inland, not in cash.
When Tennessee prepared for state-hood in 1796 he helped write its constitution. Afterward Williams Blount, a Donelson’s family friend (also a political strongman) asked Jackson to run for the Tennessee only seat in the House of Representatives and effectively without opposition he was chosen.
In 1797 the senate expelled Williams Blount and Jackson replaced him for the rest ofhis term in the upper house, although he hated every moment there because he missed Rachel so bad.
Still Blount had many powerful friends, which helped him to be judge of Tennessee’s Supreme Court in 1798.
In 1802 Tennessee’s major general died, that’s when Jackson made his move

In 1804 resigned as judgeJackson was pleased to be a good host and to lodge passing strangers, there is where his nickname “the prince of hospitality” came from
May 29, 1806 both Dickinson and Jackson both left their homes even though neither of their wives knew they were going to have a duel. Jackson was injured by a shot but won the duel.
They adopted Rachel’s nephew and named him Andrew Jackson Jr.
He wasn’t ableto have a son

December 24, 1814 treaty of Ghent was signed. The treaty allowed fighting to continue until both governments ratified it, which would not happen for another 7 weeks.
Americans called the war of 1812 the “second war of independence.” They believed it proved that their country wasno accident of history. England’s former colonies were truly an independent nation, with a rightful place in the family of nations.
In 1815 when the USA decided to divide their army in north and south, Jackson agreed to head the south division. He was going to make 2400$ a year.
The article IX of the treaty of Ghent stated that the USA promised to return all Indian lands taken from 1811 to thedate, something that our former attorney disagreed with. He always did what he thought was better for the country, even if it meant to break the law, something that would bring numerous consequences.
However nobody challenged him. They said: “Why challenge the greatest war heroes since George Washington just to please the Indians?”
On November 21, 1817 Jackson ordered Edmund P. Gaines to destroyFowltown. That’s when the first Seminole war began.
On March 5 of 1818 Jackson invaded Florida with 3000 troops.
Spaniards called Jackson “the Napoleon of the woods” because of his behavior and hate to the Indians and because of his racism.
