Resumen Roanoke Island

In the set of materials, the reading passage describes how the Governor John White didn’t find the group of settlers in the Roanoke Island andalso the clues that they left and in addition the passage explains a theory about this. On the other hand the listening passage explains howthe theory in the reading passage is not the most credible.

The reading passage mentions that the people in the colony in Roanoke haddisappeared mysteriously when the Governor John White came back to the island in 1590 after some troubles leaving his country; consequently he foundonly some clues about the missing people. Therefore the things that he found was the word “cro” and “croatan”, the first one carven on the treesand the second one on a fence post. In order to explain the mystery, the theory in this passage concludes that the reason of the disappearanceof the group of settlers was caused by a migration from the Roanoke Island to the Croatan Island.

The listening passage on the other handmentions three reasons of how the theory that is explained in the reading passage was not the most credible. One of the reasons is because not asingle evidence demonstrates that people was living in Roanake Island actually. Other reason is that a tribe has the same name as the CroatanIsland and the last reason is that because the group of settlers intermixes with the tribe that was living in a river named “Croatans”.
