SAM WALTON – MADE IN AMERICA

This book is about the Sam Walton autobiography, and tells us about his personality, his passion, his vision, his philosophy, his tenacity, but also his generosity and the best example of it is this book.
“It’s a story about entrepreneurship, and risk, and hard work, and knowing where you want to go and being willing to do what it takes to get there. It’s a story about believing in your idea, even when maybe some others folks don’t, and about sticking to your guns”- Sam Walton
He was born in kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1918 and lived there until he was about five, but he earliest memories are of Springfield, Missouri, where he started school, and later of the little Missouri town of Marshall. After that, Sam and his family lived in Shelbina, Missouri, where he started high school, and still later Columbia, where he finished high school and went on to college.
His dad, Thomas Gibson Walton, was an awfully hard worker who got up early, put it in long hours, and was honest. He was the best negotiator Sam ever met, but he would embarrass Sam with some offers he would make, they were so low. That’s one reason Sam probably do not consider himselfthe best negotiator in the world, he lacks the ability to squeeze that last dollar. Fortunately, his brother bud, who has been his partner from early on, inherited Sam’s dad ability to negotiate. Sam mother, Nan Walton had also the ability to make business as well as she used to work hard.
He learned from a very early age that there was important to Sam and his brother as kids to help provide forthe home, to be contributors rather than takers.
He got married with Helen Robson and they had four kids, three sons: Rob, John and Jim, and one daughter: Alice. Helen had a B.S degree in finance, which back then was really unusual for a woman.
Sam’s father in law, L. S Robson, influences him a great deal. He was a great salesman, one of the most persuasive individual Sam ever met. Mr. Robsonorganized his ranch and family business as a partnership, and Helen and her brothers were all partners. Mr. Robson advises them to do the same thing with his family, and they did back in 1953 when Sam put his wife and sons into a partnership, which was later incorporated into Walton enterprises.
At the age of 27 years Sam made a contract for 25,000.00 (5,000 of his money, and 20,000 borrowed fromhis father in law) to run a Ben Franklin variety store. It was his first real business. By the time he got this Ben Franklin store, it was not a good business at all; actually it used to sell was half of his competitor across the street. Sam sat a goal to himself: he wanted his little store to be the best, the most profitable variety store within five years, and he really achieve that goal, butafter those 5 years the contract he signed ends, and because of his lack of experience, he could renew it, but he learned a lot of that bad experience, and he move on ahead.
He used to travel a lot and he was always checking what competitors were doing, he used to took the best things from them, and make them even better. That was the way he started Wal mart. He vision that discount stores will bethe next concept that will be beating variety store, so he stick with his idea, and work hard; he swam upstream, but finally he became the most successful business man that transform the retail industry into a new era : The discount stores.
Although Sam Walton biography is very interesting, the most important issue of this book is a treasury of wisdom that Sam share to us in ten rules. Those arephilosophically and are from his own experience through his life. Those are priceless; in particular, they are helping me a lot to get another prospective as a businessman.
RULE 1:
Commit to you business. Believe in it more than anybody else. I think I overcame every single one of my personal shortcoming by the sheer passion I brought to my work. I don’t know if you’re born with this kind...
