TheGarden Party begins with the preparations of an early afternoon party in a big back yard garden. Very early in the short story the setting is describe and makes the reader understand that it has animportant role in it. Most of the characters are introduce at the beginning and the author makes sure that everybody recognize that the mother is giving her children the responsibility of the party.Laura, who is the main character, is a juvenile girl whose mother relay on her to get the party in time and in shape. The main thing she has to do is letting the working men know where to locate aspecial marquee and everything else. When the author mentioned the tennis court at the back yard of the house, he lets us know that the family is wealthy. Throughout the plot of the story, the readercomes to meet all of the family members.

The family is composed of characters with strange names. First we meet Mrs. Sheridan, the mother, who is a superficial woman whose world revolvesaround flowers. As Laura goes inside the house to receive a phone call, the author presents her sister, Jose that likes to give orders to the servants of the house. In the same scene Mansfield,introduced Laura’s brother, Laurie, to whom she relates to and think that he is similar to her in feelings and ideas. After the phone call, a florist came to the house to delivered special canna lilies thather mother had order. Laura was upset because the mother promised to let her run the party. Jose makes the servants move the piano to a place that during the party Meg, another sister, can play itand she can sing a song that she was practicing.

The song has an important symbolism in the story because it talks about the awaking the protagonist will suffer at the end of the story. It...
