Scope
The Scope knowledge area can seem as though it's not as complex as some of the other knowledge
areas, such as time, cost, and procurement, but failing to give it the needed attention can cause problems on
aproject and even the exam. The more detail you give to the defining and Decomposition of the Scope and
the creation of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), the more successful your project is likely to be. If
you fail to devote attention to scope, problems will definitely show up in the Scope Verification process
where work results are compared to what should have been built. Remember that the ScopeStatement and
WBS are key outputs you need when planning your project.

Scope Planning (Planning Process Group)
In Scope Planning, the emphasis is on creating the Project Scope
Management Plan, which helps to define and manage the scope of the project. The
Project Scope Management Plan helps define how the scope of the project will be
managed, including the creation of theproject Scope Statement, Work Breakdown
Structure (WBS), verification, and controlling the scope of the project.

The Preliminary Project Scope Statement includes the product scope description
and is used to provide an initial description of the scope of the project.
A Project Management Plan (not aschedule!) integrates plans representing the
various knowledge areas in the PMI approach to project management. Supporting
detail is included to help validate the information in the Project Management Plan.
Key Tools &
