Steve Jobs´ address at Stanford University

According to my opinion, what Steve Jobs tried to tell to the graduates in his speech at Stanford University during the 2005 openingcourse, was an overview about how to confront their future professional lives.

In order to carry out this discourse, he splitted the conference in three main parts, and these parts wererelated to several important stories of his life.

The first story is called “Connecting the dots”, and it is about the importance of following your own intuition. I believe he triedto explain the need of doing what you like, to follow your inner voice, although at first it does not seem the best way, then you will find out the way of using all what you have learnt. The second part is named “Love and Lost” and as far as i know this story is regarding enthusiasm and optimism. He is willing to convince the former students that the best way ofprofessional growing is to love what you do, and the only way of being truly satisfied and being successful in your career is to find the job you love. Even If you haven’t found it yet oryou are in low professional moments, be enthusiastic, keep looking and don’t settle.

The last part of his address was called by him “Death”. With this story he tried to explain thegraduates the importance of being conscious of time limit. He wanted the audience to be aware about the passing time, because as he said ”Remembering that you’re going to die is the best wayI know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose”. And for me, that means that being conscious that death comes sure and soon, is the best way for having the courage tofollow your heart and intuition, and not to waste the time by living someone else’s life

Definitively, as he said in the conference. “Stay hungry. Stay foolish”
