Method ofDelivery 10 weekly 1-hour lectures at 16.00 – 17.00 on Mondays in & Frequency of Jubilee Campus South Building B52, plus two 1-hour seminars: Class: 1st round: February 27th - 2nd March 2nd round: March 19th - 23rd March Sign up sheets for seminar groups will be displayed on the NEXUS online tutorial booking system in the Business School giving details of the time, date and location of seminars.Please sign up for a seminar slot for each round of seminars. You will be notified in lectures of the preparation required for seminars. Method and Criteria One 3,000 word (excluding references) case study of Assessment: (100%) Answers will be assessed for both their theoretical and empirical contributions. Coursework on this module will be marked in accordance with the marking guide included in your2011/2012 Business School Undergraduate Student Handbook. Do not select one of the case organizations we study during the module as specified in Lecture 1 ‘Introduction’ handout. Choose one of the following as the subject matter for a 3,000 word case study. Either: 1. Identify an episode of strategic change for an organisation of your own choice. Outline why the change was necessary? Criticallyanalyse the effectiveness of the strategic leadership in your chosen case given the context faced by the organisation and the approach to strategic change pursued at the time. How adaptive has the organisation been during this change episode

in terms of developing its resources and core competencies for the future?

Or 2. Identify an episode of international development for an organisation of yourown choice. Outline the motivations for international expansion during this period. What strategy is your chosen organisation pursuing to compete internationally and why? Discuss the organisational challenges of expanding internationally during this period and to what extent they were addressed. How effective was the internationalisation in terms of resource and core competence utilisation anddevelopment?

Essays to be handed in to the Post Box in the Undergraduate Atrium by 2 pm on Wednesday 9th May 2012. Normal penalties will apply for late submission. Two copies of your essay must be handed in. Module Aims: To examine the process of strategic management and the management factors that influence effective strategy implementation.

Summary of Content: This module examines the managerialand organisational factors that influence the formation and subsequent realisation of strategy. The course enables you to develop skills in the analysis of strategic processes, with particular reference to the role of leadership, change, learning, and power strategy.
