IMMIGRATION

ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES

Most international students are notentitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If they receive medical treatment during their visit, they may be liable for the full costs of treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz

ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The Accident Insurance Corporationprovides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical insurance and other costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz

MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE

International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in NewZealand.

1. All international students enrolled at Takapuna Grammar School, whether individual or group, are required under regulation to have appropriate medical and travel insurance. This may be a group or individual policy. The insurance policy should be in place at the time the student takes up his or her “offer of place” and before they leave their home country if enrolled from overseasor when tuition costs are met if resident in New Zealand. The International Manager will verify all policies prior to students commencing their studies.
2. Takapuna Grammar has recommended insurers. If this insurer is not used then the school must be satisfied that the medical and travel insurance meets its requirements as listed below.
3. Students are required to supply an Englishtranslated copy of the insurance policy and evidence of its currency. This will be filed by the International Manager and will be monitored annually.
4. Policy requirements:-
Where students have separate travel and medical insurance, the travel insurance should include:-
a) Loss of baggage and other personal effects
b) Accident and injury
c) Disruption totravel plans
d) The cost of medical care in any “stopover” countries

Combined medical and travel insurance should:
a) Commence when leaving home for the airport, while in transit and within New Zealand or trips to other destinations and holidays back to their home country.
b) Contain high sums insured (from $1,000,000.00) to unlimited cover, fullmedical, optical and dental cover plus a low excess).
c) Include emergency evacuation and repatriation, personal effects and accompanying relative cover.
d) Ensure personal effects are covered and personal liability can be met.
e) Address continuation should a student have to interrupt his or her studies.

5. In assessing the validity of insurance cover fromproviders outside the recommended insurers, the school will consider:
a) Whether the insurer is a reputable and established experience in the travel insurance business, and has an excellent credit rating.
b) If the insurer is able to provide emergency 24-hour, 7 days a week cover.
