Should prostitution be legalized

First of all, there are some terms that I want to define before telling my opinion about this polemic topic. Prohibition declares that “the act of acceptingpayment for sex and sometimes it is illegal and punished.”Criminalization happens when “the law forbids certain activities related to payment for sex. These activities include soliciting for clients,advertising, recruiting prostitutes or helping them to circulate from one country to another”. STD means Sexually Transmitted Diseases. With these terms clear, we can get started. Prostitution is theoldest kind of job in history. Some people see prostitution as a taboo topic; others see it as a sin or a vice. There are discussions about calling these women prostitutes or sex workers. There are manyarguments for and against prostitution’s legalization. Opponents of decriminalization say that it would increase crime and attract sex workers and johns from other areas where sex work is criminalized.In Costa Rica, many people say that allowing prostitution as a legal business will corrupt society. Proponents of decriminalization offer prostitutes regular STD tests and pelvic exams to preventinfections. I think that It will be an advantage that brothels don´t have now. There would be more control and it will reduce infections like VIH or SIDA. One of my personal opinions is that we cannotavoid prostitution, but we can make this activity safer for those ones who decide to practice it.
Finally, I would like to make clear that for some people, prostitution is a practice that impliescorruption, sin, immorality. For some others, it is a simple choice, a way of living and a business. There are many situations that can make a woman become a prostitute. Maybe she had no choice; maybe shesaw it as an easy way out of problems. There are many reasons for them, but the point I tried to make here is that they are human beings. They are sisters, mothers, daughters; and they deserve to...
