MarketingVox (2009) echoed the opinion ofLast Exits’ experts, whom have highlighted the top digital trends for 2010; one of them was “[…] 2. The Cloud Helps Open-Source Software Make Proper Money: […]”, which is an interesting affirmation because of it contains the old dilemma of how making money using Open-Source Software (OSS), it mentions the Cloud, an emergent technology which is introducing innovative manners of do business, and aswell it offers a visionary point of view affirming Cloud helps OSS make money. Furthermore, the tendency mentioned is supported with two circumstances; firstly, it states that now OSS projects are available for the masses, perhaps, not involving people inside the source code, but using the product released by the projects. For instance, the e-commerce OSS project named osCommerce, that it isavailable on its Web site www.oscommerce.com, is installed, supported and maintained by many hosting companies as OVH1, whom offers osCommerce as e-commerce solution and it gives the opportunity to its customer to administrate their own products catalogue or special offers by themselves in an easy way, according with my experience using osCommerce software. And the other circumstance mentioned is thefact that Beanstalk2 has demonstrated that it is possible make money through OSS projects using Cloud, in its case offering fully hosted as well as version-controlled code repository that uses Subversion3 open-source project. It is notorious how the both OVH and Beanstalk add values to theirs services using OSS projects.
