The era of Sherlock Holmes




In Sherlock Holmes novels the plot is mostly set in cities, but sometimes characters also move to some rural areas. This way is no longer difficult to get aiconic British-live-Picture.
The novels take place in Great Britain during the 19th century. Ignoring the fact that Holmes’ adventures were a 40-year-long period that spanned three distinct eras(Victorian, Edwardian, and Georgian), in the stories it is always the Victorian era.




• Victorian era


The Victorian era of British history was the period of Queen Victoria's reignfrom 1837 to 1901. It was a long period of peace, prosperity, and industrialization.
In international relations the era was a long period of peace, known as the Pax Britannica, and economic,colonial, and industrial consolidation.
The population almost doubled during this period, concentrating in cities. This was called rural exodus.
Victoria's reign was the longest in Britishhistory up to the present day




• Industrial era


The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining,transportation, and technology had a profound effect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of the time.
The Industrial Revolution influenced almost every aspect of daily life and the averageand population began to exhibit sustained growth.
During this period, the transition towards machine-based work began. It started with the mechanisation of the textile industries, thedevelopment of iron-making techniques and the increased use of refined coal.
Trade expansion was enhanced by the introduction of canals, improved roads and most importantly, railways.
In thesecond industrial revolution, the most important progress were internal combustion engine and electricity.
