Muriel Spark. “The House of the Famous Poet”
Summarise the story.
In the summer of 1944, the author took the train to London. It was there were he meet a girl, Elise and asoldier. She (the author) was invited by Elise to the house where she worked, as Elise explained that the master and his family were away. She accepted as she saw her as a curiosity, she thought tofind out something deeper about her.
Once they arrived to the house at the Swiss Cottage, the author got dissapointed, he started to get bored about Elise and about the house, but everthing changedwhen she found out that it was the house of the Famous Poet, the author knew the poems and the poet very well.
Elise invited some friends to the house, considering that the poet was not at home forthe weekend, the author feared the poet might come home, but because or not have train to leave she stayed at the party.
The day after party when the author was ready to leave, a soldier that shemet at the train came to her, he needed some cash for the train tricket, and intead of beg for money, he sold the author a abstract funeral, she found it a bargain, so she payed to the soldier.
Thesoldier sold an abstrac funeral to Elise and the poet too.
Later on the author learned Elise and the poet were killed by a bomb at the house of the famous poet.
