The Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus. It was discovered in 1999, after having caused disease in domestics animales and humans who had contactwith domestics animales . The virus took the name nipah of the place where it was found
The natural host of the virus are fruit bats of the Pteropodidae Family,Pteropus genus. NiV was first identified during an outbreak of disease that took place in Kampung Sungai Nipah, Malaysia in 1998. On this occasion, the intermediate host wasthe pig However, in subsequent NiV outbreaks, there were not intermediate hosts. In Bangladesh in 2004, the people became infected with NiV as a result after consumingdate palm sap contaminated by infected fruit bats
It has been also documented transmission between humans even in a hospital setting in India. NiV infection in humansis associated with a spectrum of clinical manifestations. These range from a process to asinomatico until an acute respiratory syndrome. the VNI also can affect pigs andother domestics animales.
