Introduction
The Second World War was the armed conflict that broke in 1939 between the Axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan) against the Allies (Britain, France and the SovietUnion). This second block was reinforced by the United States since 1941.
The main cause was the ambition of Adolf Hitler (German), Benito Mussolini (Italian) and Hirohito (Japanese) for politicaland economic dominance of the world, snatching the colonies and semi-colonies to the Allied powers.
In 1933, the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler came to the power of Germany and soon after began to violatethe Treaty of Versailles in 1919. He reactivated his military industry, reorganized his armed forces and annexed Austria. Between 1938 invaded Czechoslovakia. Meanwhile, Italy invaded and conqueredAlbania.
On September 1st, 1939 Germany invades Poland, causing Britain and France declares war. In the months following Germany invades Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Holland. In June 1940 falls Paris,capital of France. In August of the same year the German aircraft bombed London, without obtaining the surrender.
Encouraged by German advances, the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini sent troops toinvade Greece and Egypt, but being defeated. This forced to Hitler send their help to control the Balkans and North Africa. These forces were defeated by the Allies in the Battle of El Alamein (July1942) and returned to Italy, where they were also defeated.
In June 1941, Hitler ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union. His forces advance to Moscow, but still very close they had to retreat by theRussian counter-attack and the arrival of winter. They were eventually crushed by the Soviets in the great Battle of Stalingrad (June 1942 - February 1943).
