TOUR FOR HISTORIC CENTER OF CUENCA
Cuenca is one of the most beautiful cities inEcuador, located in South Central in this country. It has 331.888 habitants and It was named Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity for its beautiful Historic Center.
* The tour begins at the AbdonCalderon Park. It is located in the center of the city on the Benigno Malo between Mariscal Sucre and Simon Bolivar Street. It is surrounded by important buildings like the New Cathedral, The OldCathedral, the Municipality and the Tourism Foundation of Cuenca.
Calderon Park the scene of transcendent events of citizens. This park is made with patches of grass where there are twenty different speciesof vegetation such as palms, guabisay, arupos, pepper trees, jacarandas, alder, myrtle, standing out the eight pines surrounding the monument to Calderon. There are festivals, demonstrations, ralliescitizens, besides being an outstanding place for recreation.
* At the corner of Luis Cordero and Sucre, we can see the Old Cathedral. Across from the Calderon Park. It was one of the main placesof worship Spanish. It has a colonial structure that is formed with four private churches to richest families of that time, an organ and biblical figures of the last dinner. It was named museum ofreligious art and now here you can enjoy concerts and cultural events.
* To get from Old Cathedral to the Church of Carmen, you have to walk straight ahead about two block and turn left. TheChurch of Carmen is located on the corner of Mariscal Lamar and Padre Aguirre Street. It is next to the “Plaza de las Flores”. This is one of the few examples of colonial religious architecture in Cuenca.Also it’s adorned by an elegant doorway carved in stone.
