The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a state located in Northern South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea andthe North Atlantic Ocean, between Colombia and Guyana. Venezuela’s government type is a federal republic. The president of Venezuela is Hugo Chavez Rivas, since 1999. This president seeks to implementa new socialism, changing the pathways of the actual government, and will accordingly strengthen Venezuela’s development. The most common problematic situations in Venezuela nowadays are: illegal drugdistribution, concerns against the change of the way the government is, an overdependence on the petroleum industry and mining practices that are damaging the ecosystems.
Referring to population,Venezuela occupies the 46th position in the world. The death rate and birth rate do not represent very important problem in the country. However, infant mortality and protections against infectiousdiseases are part of political concerns. 98% per cent of Venezuela’s population in urbanized. Spanish is the official language of the country; the majority of the population has Roman Catholicpractices. Despite of the fact that the investments on education in Venezuela are not the best, the literacy is above 90%.
Venezuela’s economy depends on great part to the oil industry. This has led torecent problems when prices arise. President Hugo Chavez has made efforts in order to increase the dependency of the economy by the government. These actions have been very controversial, because thisrepresents loss in some sectors of business in Venezuela and privates some companies from developing in a “capitalism-based” manner. Its currency is called “bolivar”.
