With the development industry society, food production has made it very simple to produce large amounts of unhealthy fast food. As a result, obesity has becomea major problem to our society en the United States, almost 20% of our population is obese or over weight. Although there are many causes for obesity, the effects of it are very strong and harm thehealth, psyche, and society of the obese individual.
The most important effect that obesity brings to an individual are health effects. Obesity brings health problems such as heart disease, due tohigh cholesterol and high blood pressure. The physical inactivity of an obese person can also bring pain to their joints and muscles causing arthritis. Other diseases such as cancer in the colon,prostate, breast, cervix, etc., moreover, diabetes are very prominent among obesity patients. These are very devastating effects because they can end up in death. Death is the ultimate effect of obesity;this is because of excess weight causes mortality many times higher in young people between 25 and 35 years old.
Many psychological problems are also brought about with obesity first, obese patientsare more likely to suffer from depression or have low self esteem because of their appearance. Depression affects their mood, so they can have suicidal thoughts and can harm themselves. This couldbe extremely unhealthy when young patients experience depression because of obesity during their early developing years. Insecurities are also very common with obesity. Patients often feel out ofplace or looked at everywhere they go. They fear people making fun of them, so they often don’t leave their homes. Obese women are more likely to experience emotional of psychological changes as aresult of obesity.
