A. Define formal regions, functional regions, and perceptual regions.

Answers
A. When we generalize areas when we see similarities between placesand call them regions. There are three categories in which we put regions into. Formal, functional, and perceptual regions. Formal regions are areas that are created by imaginary lines made bygovernments to signal that that area is a state or something similar. Functional regions are areas that revolve around a space where the region’s center is. A perceptual region is one that isn't asorganized as the previous two. Perceptual regions that the people from that area think they belong to and belongs to them or represents their culture.
B. An example of a formal region would be a country,like the United States. The United States can be distinguished from other formal regions because of it's language, size and position on the earth's surface. Many other countries in the world speakEnglish too but every one of them differs slightly from the United States’ English. We often use different terms for the same object from some other English speaking country such as Australia or the U.K.The U.S. is also a relatively large country which also sets it apart from other formal regions that may be a little smaller. Another factor that distinguishes pretty much every place in the world isit's position on earth's surface. The U.S. is on the northern hemisphere, west of the prime meridian.
