SOCIAL SERVICE
September 2002-August 2003 Social service working with public primary school
teachers as part of a government-sponsored program called “Science at
your School” (“La Ciencia en tu Escuela”) organized by the Mexican
Academy of Sciences. The objective of the program was to promote and
improvethe teaching of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology by

facilitating direct communication between scientists and primary school
teachers and by suggesting creative ways to teach science and math
through weekly seminars.

FIELD EXPERIENCE
May 3-9 2008. Marine mammal observer on an oceanographic cruise on board the
UNAM R/V “El Puma”. The vessel covered a track from Mazatlán toIsla
Socorro (in the Revillagigedo Archipelago) and back to Mazatlán.
March 1-4 2007. Assistant teacher during a marine mammal observation field trip
for the Natural Resource Conservation class from the Geography
undergraduate program of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
January-April 2005. Field work collecting and humpback whale (Megaptera
novaeangliae) sighting and acoustic dataon outboard-engine inflatable
boats, on Isla Socorro, Mexico. The data collected was also databased for
use in the SPLASH international project (structure of population, levels of
abundance and status of humpbacks) and for my undergraduate thesis.
December 1-5 2004. Assistant teacher during a marine mammal observation field
trip for the Natural Resource Conservation class from the Geographyundergraduate program of the National Autonomous University of México.
