Animal Farm is a fiction novel by George Orwell. Animal Farm is not just a novel about animals taking control over they own farm, but it´s also Orwell´s comparison and point of view towardsthe Russian revolution. In this fantastic novel George Orwell points out the emotion of the animals resembling the Russian population and revolutionary groups in Russia. Orwell deals with themes like Hope, corruption and submission towards authority.
A revolution is the result of hope for a better future. Old Major is a symbol of hope for the animals. He is the founder of Animalism and therevolution, and is considered the voice of reason to all the animals. Old Major resembles Karl Marx a worker of the world unite, dies before Russian revolution. This quote is introduced by Old Major on his first meeting in the novel: "Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, and he cannot run fast enoughto catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself"(pg. 7). In the novel hope is demonstrated by rules, the rules are a symbol of hope because rules are meant to be obey for a peaceful future and a better understanding between people, or in the novels case, theanimals. The seven commandments are the rules for the animals of Animal Farm: "THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
7. All animals are equal." (pg. 21)
Hope isalso demonstrated in the novel when Snowball brings up the idea of building a windmill. Snowball contrasts Leon Trotsky who believed in pure communism an educated and brilliant person. The windmill was destroyed, and Snowball was accused of sabotaging his own invention: "If a window was broken or a drain was blocked up, someone was certain to say that Snowball had come in the night and done it, andwhen the key of the store-shed was lost, the whole farm was convinced that Snowball had thrown it down the well. Curiously enough, they went on believing this even after the mislaid key was found under a sack of meal."(pg.66)
In the novel the reader deals with a major theme like corruption. Corruption is obvious in Animal Farm, and demonstrated mainly by Napoleon, a character in the novelresembling Joseph Stalin. Staling was not as good a speaker as Trotsky, did not follow Marx´s ideas and killed all that opposed him. Napoleon propagandized so that he would be in control of the animals: "It had become usual to give Napoleon the credit for every successful achievement and every stroke of good fortune. You would often hear one hen remark to another, Under the guidance of our Leader,Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days'; or two cows, enjoying a drink at the pool, would exclaim, Thanks to the leadership of Comrade Napoleon, how excellent this water tastes!'" (pg.78). In the novel propaganda is a big influence for corruption. Moses the Raven in Orwell´s Animal Farm is a representation of religion. Religion to Stalin was nonsense but it was good for the starvingpeople to have faith on a better future, just like Moses and his tales about Shugarcandy Mountain: "The pigs had an even harder struggle to counteract the lies put about by Moses, the tame raven. Moses, who was Mr. Jones's especial pet, was a spy and a tale-bearer, but he was also a clever talker. He claimed to know of the existence of a mysterious country called Sugarcandy Mountain, to which...
