Chapter 8: TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE.
1. After the 1970`s Asher introduces the “Total Physical Response” (TPR) method,which is a least stressful way to achieve understanding of any target language by following directions uttered by the instructor.
This is a peripheral method because it is used in the `Naturalapproach´, by Krashen and Terrell. The `Lexical approach´, develop by Lewis; the `Comprehension approach´ stated by Winitz in the 1981. All these methods are based on the hypothesis that language learningshould start first with understanding and later proceed to production.

* The main goal of the teacher is to make the experience of learning a foreign enjoyable.
* The role of students isdivided into states, the first one where the students are imitators and the second state is where the students are ready to speak.
* The role of the teacher is to be a director of all students’behavior.
* Within the process there are three phases, the first one is when some students perform the commands with the teacher, the second is when they perform them by themselves, and duringthese two phases the students who are observing do nothing, until the third phase where they perform the same commands.
* After learning to respond to same oral commands, the students learn to readand write them.
* One of the main reasons TPR was develop was to reduce the stress people feel when studying foreign language
* This method resembles the understanding of the spoken word firstand then its production where spoken language is emphasized over written language.
* The way in which the teacher evaluates the students is by monitoring their actions and she/ he corrects them...
