Etymological information:
Can it help ourstudents?
English is a Germanic language that arose insular in Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread to the north in what would become the southeastern Scotland under the influence of the Kingdom of "Northumbria", its etymology derives from the Angles, or "Angleis "in French, one of the originating area Germanic tribes" Jutland "now in northern Germany, 15 who invaded England after the fall of theRoman Empire in the fifth century.
The etymology is useful to students for diverse and various reasons: it allows a better understanding of our language also provides the vocabulary of the humanities and technology in general facilitates the understanding of technical words is a hidden auxiliary memory , also relates our language with other Romance and Indo-European because it helps in theformulation of concepts and definitions on the other hand is also used to derive definitions and formulate clearly to us helps in the development of practical neologisms helps to build vocabulary, using resources that gives us understanding of the smallest units of words (prefixes, suffixes, morphemes, lexemes and morphemes).
Since ancient times, students of language have been concerned withinvestigating the origin of words as a medium of humanity itself. Going back a while ago I can say that the Greeks who were assigned to the study name Etymologies. Long ago, the philosopher Plato “raised the interest in understanding the origin of words and apply the true meaning of them”.
According to certain concepts states that: The etymology is a linguistic discipline or field related with the logicthat is responsible for studying the origin of words, considering its original meaning and form, and its evolution with any changes that have been over time. It is also responsible for analyzing how and why a word is incorporated into a language, what their sources and how they vary.
Also along with the help of science related to it as philology, historical linguistics and comparative linguisticscan reconstruct the correct ways to pronounce or write both extinct and unknown partly ancient languages.
Something very interesting that I read is that thanks to the etymology know that words are constructed, destroyed and change over time, are not something stable or constant.
If we use the methods of linguistics and etymology, you can reconstruct information on ancient languages very well, analyzing and interacting with other languages, linguists can make inferences about the language from which they originate, and vocabulary.
By studying the etymology may increase the understanding of the precise meaning of the words expand our vocabulary and improve spelling. According to historians languages evolve with daily use, generating the words being modified and adapted according tothe historical moment. Probably what a word meant centuries ago today cannot it means the same and is likely not meaning the same in the future.
