Testing the relationship between the amount of sugar to the amount of water transported across the raisins.
Conclusions
The purpose of this experiment was to test out the relationship betweensolute concentration (pon el nombre del solute) and water transported across the membrane of a raisin, measured by the amount sugar that diffused across the membrane. To do this, we produced an experimentin which we placed different amount of sugar in cups filled with the exact same amount of water; we also introduced raisins in the solute concentration to observe the relationship mentioned.
Thefinal results state that the sugar does indeed affect the mass of the raisins. With more sugar, the mass of the raisins increases. After three days of gathering data we could easily see that the raisinsin the cup with the most sugar (g) were also the ones with more overall mass. In day 1 the 5 raisins weighted approximately 10 grams, in day 2 the raisins weighted about 20 grams. This occurredbecause sugar is able to diffuse across a semi permeable layer. The concentration gradient, forms a hypertonic solution inside the raisin, and as time passes, more diffusion will occur.
Our hypothesis wassupported by the results of the experiment conducted. As said before, if the amount of sugar increases, the mass of the raisins will increase as well. We stated this before the experiment andeventually we supported it. (esa oracion esta redundante)
This experiment showed a clear example of Osmosis. The cups were filled with the same amount of water but with different amounts of sugar. Ourcontrol group was conformed of one cup with no sugar at all. The membrane of the raisins is the boundary between where there’s water inside the cell and outside too, so it controls what passes and whatdoesn’t.
