As years went by, one day Luis’ mom caught asthma and gotreally sick and asked Victor if he can look over his son. The issue was never brought up until this very moment when Victor’s wife, Rita, denied Luis her home. Rita did not want her kids to be raisedwith a black person. Luis’ mom had no choice but to move on and raise her kid on her own of course with the financial help of Victor on the side. While Rita’s children grew up going to private schoolswith private tutors, they never cared about school and never appreciated their dad’s hard work, two of them graduated from high school, and the third one dropped out and became an alcoholic. In contrastLuis did extremely well in school and although he received help from his dad, he still managed to help his mom working in the food market. Rita always jealous of Luis’ accomplishments added morehatred to her discrimination towards him.
When Luis graduated from High School undoubtedly with outstanding grades and was accepted to a prestigious University in the city, he asked his dad if he couldstay with him during those four years, despite of the previous mistreatment Rita gave him. However, this time Victor put his foot down and with his wife’s opposition he agreed. Luis knew this was notgoing to be easy for him.
