TYLER·The development of community psychology es presented, with emphasis in its origins in the United States. There have been three revolutions in mental health: Pinel's revolution, Freud's revolution, andthe community psychology revolution. The later one began in tbe 60's
in a formal sense. The importance of the Community Mental Health
Centers Acts of 196~ is presented. The role of the SwampscottConference
in the development of community psychology is indicated. Also the influence of the Vail Conference and the Austin Conference is pointed
out. Little by little community psychology became anaccepted field,
with its own frame of reference and íts own professional structure, Its
relevance for developing countries is very great.

Los enfoques comunitarios en la psicología contemporáneaen
los Estados Unidos se han desarrollado solo en épocas recientes. Una
comunidad auto-identificada, cohesiva y auto-sostenida de psicólogos
comunitarios solo puede decirse que ha existido...
