Yr10- Food chains and Nutrient cycles
1. Habitat: it is a part of the environment that can provide food, shelter and a breeding site for a living organism.
Population:a group of individuals of the same species inhabitating the same place at the same time.
Community: all the different populations inhabitating the same area at the sametime
Ecosystem: all the living organisms and the non-livin factors in a particular part of the environment.
2. Producer: usually plants that convert light energy intochemical energy in food compounds.
Consumer: organisms that obtain food energy from other organisms
Decomposer: obtain their energy from raw materials from the wastes andremains of other organisms. Examples: fungi and bacteria.

4. Usually food chains have nomore than four links asenergy is lost along the chain. There aren’t more ilnks because if not the last animal of the food chain wouldn’t get enough energy to survive. Energy can neither becreated nor destroyed, so energy is lost along the food chain because animals convert this energy into some other form, for example during respiration, energy is transferred to theenvironment in form of heat.
