Following the end of World War II, there came to be a notable division between the Greatest Generation and their children.TheGreatest Generation are those people who had already become adults during the years of war and associated their lives with this time. Their living conditions were miserable. They have obligations but nofreedom. They grow up in a very inflexible society witch provided no luxuries, and instead demanded a lot from them.
In the post war period, the economic boom spread bringing around another change in theworld; The Baby Boom.
The Baby Boom is the period between 1946-1960 in which the generation known as the Baby Boomers was born. Unlike their parent, this generation had grown up privileged, withmany commodities. They were the healthiest and wealthiest generation of that time. The Baby Boomers thought of themselves as a special generation, and the redefinition of traditional values.
Since theyhad come into a time of great social change, The Baby Boomers took it upon themselves to become part of the change. They took part in many civil right marches, they changed the music scene, fashiontook a new turn and there was a excess of freedom, leading this generation to experiment in drugs, drop out of school and participate in free love.
Rejection to the mainstream culture came in the formsof psychedelic rock music, pop art and new explorations in spirituality. It encourage the youth to gather around the same values, and what is more since they were around at the same time all over theworld, they created a real artistic peak accompanied by influences such as Woodstock, music from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones; art from Andy Warhol and Peter Max.
