“The use of computer is reducing the levels of literacy.” Do you agree?
Throughout this century, computers have become a really important member of out lives. They are surely a great invention ofall times. Along the years, it has proved to be an excellent helping hand in most activities. Yet, have the changes they brought about really been for the better?  
To begin with, the benefits ofcomputers cannot be denied. On the one hand, they save valuable time and space. Time consuming tasks, such as checking bank accounts, can now be done in a matter of minutes and large amounts ofinformation are stored on tiny disks.
In addition, with immediate access to the internet, they allow us to explore the world from our homes. They provide us information about everything we can think of andthey are also great communicationtools. By using instant messaging or emails we can communicate to anyone in the world we want at any time.
Moreover, in the past years, new types of computers suchas netbooks, tablets have come out on the market. As they are very small, they are really easy to transport. There are thousands of books that can be download for free on tablets and you can take themon your pocket wherever you go.
In contrast, there are some people who claim that computers have become a problem when it comes to education; especially with young children. They point out thatchildren spent more time in front of a computer than at school. They spent hours playing different types of games; sometimes really violent ones. Nontheless, this only affects one part of society and theyusually get over games as they grow up.
Taking these points into consideration, I would say that eventhough we use computers a lot, we are not loosing our literacy. We still need to learn how toread and write to be sucessfull at using computers and sometimes, they help us do so. Needless to say, we are now used to computers, we use them everywhere we are.
