Adolescence: Early Adolescence

INTRODUCTION
I chose this topic because it is of most importance in all human beings which go through this stage, which marks a transition period that has peculiar characteristics. Adolescence isusually divided into three stages. Each stage brings its own physical, emotional and psychological changes. I’ll talk only about these changes in the second stage of adolescence.
DEVELOPMENT
EARLYADOLESCENCE (ages 11-14)

* Physical Growth
Appetite increases during growth spurts and decreases markedly between them. Increased need for sleep. Evident sexual development, voice changes, andincreased body odor are common.

* Cognitive Stage
They were able to combine the logical thinking and abstract. Some early adolescents can't think ahead to consequences of their actions.Developing new thinking skills. Use of humor focused on satire, sarcasm, and sex.

* Moral Development
Continuing egocentrism. Often self believes to be invulnerable to negative events. In addition toconcern about gaining social approval. Begins to question social conventions and re-examine own values and moral/ethical principles, sometimes resulting in conflicts with parents.

* Self-ConceptYouth begin long-term process of establishing own identity separate from family. With the onset of puberty, many girls experience pressure to conform to gender stereotypes. With puberty, normalincreases in girls' body fat can impact body image and self-concept negatively for many. Both boys and girls might be concerned with skin problems, height, weight, and overall appearance.

*Psychological and Emotional Traits
Intense self-focus. Worrying about what others think about them. Increased desire for privacy and sensivity about body. Frequent mood swings. Too much time spent alone cancontribute to moodiness height of forgetfulness.
