Alto Atacama

Alto Atacama is an oasis located at the foot of the Andes Mountains.
The “Hotel Chatter” website listed the Alto Atacama as one of the top 5 honeymoon hotels in the world. This mightbe because it is a very quiet place away from the big city.
National Geographic, an US scientific journal, listed this hotel as the number one on its 2011 Chilean “stay list”, because of theirmethods of environmental management.

A Garden in the Desert
The Atacama Desert, where this hotel is located, is very well known because of its “other worldly” beauty and the people and the animalsthat live there. There is a cultural center from the Incas time outside San Pedro de Atacama. An architect and a landscape gardener created an exotic South American garden with local plants and pieces ofAtacameño culture surrounded by buildings of adobe clay
.
This valley was considered a treasure because of the water where Aymara people arrived to cultivate food with this source. Atacameños hadto build the Pukara Quitor fortress to defend against attacks. Nowadays the ruins of that fortress have view over the garden and the hotel. In the hotel they use water from underground which is salty;they have to pass it through a desalinization and filtration system.

The Menu Grows Outside Your Window
The water flows into the different gardens and to the grounds where native food grows.Because of this different and unique dishes are prepared. For example, quinoa- an Andean pseudo- cereal-, wheat-roasted eggplant, home-made ice cream are offered in the menu.
The Dining room has an adobeinterior and there are tour guides chat offered to the guests.

Sleeping Areas Are For Sleeping
