3.- Biography of the author: This Russian novelist was born on September 9, 1828 at YasnnayaKnickerbockers, an agricultural property of his family, in the south of Moscow. In 1862, he was married to Sofia Andreevna Bers, member of a cultured family of Moscow. During the following fifteen yearshe formed an extended family, administered with success its properties and wrote his two major novels, war and peace and Anna Karenina. At the age of 82, he became ill with pneumonia, died in a remoterailway station in 1910.
