Steve Jobs: A Timeline
Late last night, news of Steve Jobs's passing, at age 56, hit the news feeds, and rocked the industry to its core. The co-founder of Apple, and its formerCEO, Jobs was a pioneer, an innovator, and a charismatic figure.
Google CEO Larry Page shared his thoughts, saying, "He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what youactually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me. He was very kind to reach out to me as Ibecame CEO of Google and spend time offering his advice and knowledge even though he was not at all well."
When President Barack Obama heard the news, he released a statement saying,"Steve was among the greatest of American innovators—brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it. By building oneof the planet's most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity."

Founding any new company takesvision and drive; it's no smooth ride. Older generations will remember when Jobs's own board fired him at the recommendation of then-CEO John Sculley. And while many people who work in acorporate environment realize to some degree that they are replaceable, Jobs was different. When he went on to form NeXT Software, people continued to be "captivated by [his]unparalleled charisma," said PCMag. Even though NeXT's products were a flop—he was the X-factor. There's a reason why he had a net worth of over $100 million by the time he was 25.
