This term is often shortened to “biotech” this technology is based in biology specially used in agriculture, pharmacy, food, environment and medicine.
This isn’t a specific science;it’s a mix up of a lot of branches from technology (biology, biochemistry, genetic, etc.)
There are a lot of definitions for this term, but the most known and common is that is the technology usedin living organisms to get benefits for the human.
This process has been present since ancient history, and we use it today for simple purposes, like transforming milk in to something moreinteresting like yogurt, another application of this is the use of injections, you use the virus to get a benefit, become invulnerable to this.
The modern biotechnology is formed by a group of technics thatare often used in cellular and animal biology and it can be used in any industry that uses microorganism’s animal and vegetable cells. This technology allows the transformation of agriculture,.
It hasalso a lot of importance for other industries , like energy, chemical products, and the use of wastes.
The biotechnology has some derived terms for its branches:
Bioinformatics: field whichaddresses biological problems using techniques in computer and analyses data as quick as possible.
Blue biotechnology: this is a term that classifies the biotechnology that is used in al the marineenvironment.
Green biotechnology: this is the one used for agricultural process, everything that has to do with plants and their transformations.
Red biotechnology: is used for medical terms, al theinvestigations and uses for producing antibiotics for example.
White Biotechnology: this is also known as industrial biotechnology, and as its name says it, its used for industrial process, an example couldbe the designing of an organisms to create or destroy chemicals.
