Of coursethese works brought conflict with the Catholic Church and the “intellectual class,” because they went against the time’s reasoning and common sense.
On one hand, the theory of evolution that CharlesDarwin proposed in his book: "On the Origin of Species," in 1859, had an huge impact on society, because for the first time, someone argued that the unqualified creationist ideas were incorrect. These are its five main arguments: a) The biological types or species do not have fixed or static existence, but are constantly changing, b) life manifests as a continuous struggle for existence andsurvival, c) the struggle for survival causes organisms that do not adapt to a explicit environment to disappear and allows those which adjust better to reproduce; this process is called naturalselection; d) natural selection, development and evolution involve an gigantic amount of time, so long that in a single human life these phenomenon cannot be detected, e) genetic variations that causeincreased chances of survival are random, and not caused either by god or by the propensity of organisms to seek perfection.
