The United States is being called by the human right watch to return Vietnam to a list of theworld's worst abusers of religious freedom.
The U.S. based group singled Vietnam out in a statement Tuesday, a day after releasing its annual global report onhuman rights. It says the Communist government continues to crack down on religious groups not recognized by Hanoi.
Several religious leaders, includingpro-democracy dissident Catholic priest Thadeus Nguyen continue to be detained by the police. Hanoi maintains only lawbreakers are jailed.
The State Department'sofficial list of countries of particular concern includes Myanmar, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Uzbekistan.
The DRC Armycommander was arrested by the authorities for rape
The commander of national army soldiers has been arrested by the authorities in the democratic republic of Congowho allegedly went on a rape and looting spree on New Year’s Day in the eastern part of the country.
The commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Kibibi Mutware, hasbeen called by the UN organization in the DRC (Democratic Republic Congo) to be removed after the non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontières reportedthat armed men raped over 30 women on 1 January in the town of Fizi in South Kivu province.
Mutware has also been identified by the victims interviewed by theUN organization. The Congolese authorities are currently transporting him and other army personnel in custody in connection with the incident to Uvira for trial.
