1. ANACY AND TIGER
Once upon a time Brother Anancy and Brother Tiger courting the same girl. Anancy Wasn´t sure if the girl loved him. He wanted the girl for himself so he studied out a case to wreck up Tiger´s life. One night when Anancy went to look for the girl, said to her, “Miss Quashabaugh, I heard that you are keeping company with a fellow of very low category, a fellow that was myfather’s old riding horse and who does not fit a lady like you Miss Quashabaug “ The girl said, “Is that true Brother Anancy”, Anancy said “it is true Miss Quashabaugh. I can prove it to you, if you wish I can show you that tiger is my father’s old riding horse, “ The poor girl was frightened to hear that she was courting the riding horse. So she told Anancy that she was going to ask tigerabout it. The following time Tiger went to visit the girl, he met her with a sour face. Tiger asked her what was the matter and she told him that Anancy said that he was his father’s old riding horse. Tiger got into a temper.
He old her that was a lie that, Anancy was telling about him. She said that Anancy said he could prove it. Tiger said he was going for Anancy now and bring him back toprove it before her. Well, Tiger hustled on to Anancy’s yard.
When tiger reached Anancy’s yard his door was half shut. He knocked on it strongly and said, “Brother Anancy!”. Anancy with a faint little voice inside said.” Yes Brother Tiger Said, “ Yes Brother Tiger” Brother Tiger said, “Brother Anancy, I heard that you are telling people that I was your father’s old riding horse, youhave to go with me tonight, because you are going to prove it” “Larks, Brother tiger, I would be glad to go with you, sir, but see,sir I am very sick.I am just dying with a stomachache, sir and I can’t walk at all” “Hmm” Tiger went into Anancy’s room, he heard him constantly groaning in his bed Tiger said that he didn’t care how sick Anancy was, he would have to come with him thatsame night to take back the lie he told about him.
Hear Anancy “ well Brother Tiger ,the only way I can go with you,sir,is if you give me a little ride on your back, sir let me ride on your back” Poor Tiger was so angry that he couldn’t see that it was a trick that Anancy was playing on him, So Tiger said,” Yes, Brother Anancy, you can ride on my back as long as you are goingto take back the lie that you told about me. Hear Anancy: “that you Brother Tiger,” and jumped up on Tiger´s back. When they reached the door, Anancy said “Lord Brother Tiger, I am on your back but I feel like I ‘going to fall down. I’m afraid,sir,I might hurt my belly, sir, I can’t go. Tiger said, “You must go Brother Anancy, you must go” hear Anancy, “All right, brother Tiger, I will gobut I will have to get a little thing they call bridle and another thing they call bit and another little thing they call saddle, a spur and a whip, otherwise I will fall off your back and end hurting my belly “Hear tiger with his foolish self “ All right Brother Anancy, as long as you are going with me to take back the lie, I don’t care what you get to ride on my back “ SoAnancy got everything, the bridle, the saddle and everything, then he rode on Tiger´s back, calm and groaning all the way until he reached near Miss Quashabaugh´s yard.
Anancy then started to beat Tiger and holler out loudly, “Come see for yourself, Miss Quashabaugh, come see for yourself, Miss Quashabaugh, same thing I told you, Miss Quashabaugh; Tiger is my father´s old riding horse”.
MissQuashabaugh pulled up her curtain, looked and laughed at Tiger: Anancy jumped off Tiger´s back and ran into Miss Quashabaugh´s yard, poor Tiger was so ashamed he held down his head and ran into the woods to hide himself, from that day until today, Tiger lives in the forest ,Anancy caused it.
