THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: PERSUASION TO CHANGE
The Declaration of Independence is the document that all the American people might see as the foundation of their modern society. The documentwrote by the Founding Fathers was the most valuable step towards the separation from the British Crown and its politics, which also contributed to the establishment of a new society able to controlits own destiny. Thomas Jefferson, one of the most important Founding Fathers, was a brilliant person who clearly used his knowledge to guide and convince more people from the original colonies to joinhim in an unbelievable attempt, by that time, to gain the freedom and equality for an oppressed nation, which was tired of the abuses, and that lacked a good government. In order to convinceAmericans, Jefferson used a very persuasive language emphasizing the bad things done by the English King. Additionally, the listing pattern he used allowed him to repeat the words he has at the beginning ofeach complaint, a detail that at the end lead the reader to focus merely on the negative aspects of the crown without leaving a chance to even think about another point of view. Therefore, it canpointed out, that the persuasive language that Jefferson used in the document and the listing pattern he chose for the grievances are the most powerful tools he could have used to convince the colonies tosupport his document, and his ideas.
To begin with, Jefferson starts the document using the sentence: “when in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve thepolitical bands which have connected them with another,” to clarify that the American people is different to the English people. Through this sentence, it becomes evident the necessity of the separationand rebellion against the king to overcome the abuses of the English crown.
