Si y = g(u) y u = f(x), entonces se puede obtener la composición: y = (g o f) (x) = g (f(x)) Ahora, si se quiere calcular

La siguiente regla, conocida como la regla dela cadena, proporciona otra manera de hallar la derivada sin efectuar la composición. REGLA DE LA CADENA. Supóngase que f y g son dos funciones derivables tales que H = g(u) y u = f(x), entonces:
H’(x) = (g o f)’(x) = g’(f(x)) . f’(x) En la demostración se hace uso del siguiente lema, que se puede demostrar fácilmente: LEMA: sea g una función tal que g’(u) existe y considere la siguientefunción:
