Resumen
El presente artículo tiene como objetivo principal determinar por medio de diagnóstico la línea base del turismo
del cantón Echeandía, información necesaria para desarrollar futuras propuestas sostenibles de mejoramiento de
laactividad y de productos turísticos. Como objetivos específicos están: mostrar datos relevantes acerca de
Echeandía de modo que este documento pueda servir como texto de consulta para futuros proyectos e
investigación, presentar el inventario y análisis de sus atractivos turísticos con el fin de que estos recursos puedan
ser tomados en cuenta en la creación de futuros productos y/o proyectosturísticos, determinar la capacidad de la
planta turística de Echeandía, y finalmente establecer la factibilidad de la creación de un departamento técnico de
turismo en el Municipio de Echeandía con el que se pueda dirigir la asesoría, capacitación, y proyección de la
actividad turística, e integrar a la actividad a sus habitantes. Para el efecto se exponen los aspectos generales del
cantón, losatractivos turísticos que atraen mayor demanda o los más reconocidos entre sus habitantes, el
compendio de la planta turística existente al momento en Echeandía y su capacidad, y finalmente se muestran los
resultados de la propuesta de creación de un departamento de turismo en su municipio.

Abstract
The present article has as main objective to determine by means of diagnosis the baseline of the tourism of the
canton Echeandía, necessary information to develop future sustainable proposals of improvement of the activity
and of tourist products. As specific objectives they are: to show outstanding data about Echeandía so this documentcan be good as consultation text for future projects and investigation, to present the inventory and analysis of its
tourist attractiveness with the purpose of that these resources can be taken into account in the creation of future
products and/or tourist projects, to determine the capacity of the tourist plant of Echeandía, and finally to establish
the feasibility of the creation of a technicaldepartment of tourism in the Municipality of Echeandía with which can
go the consultantship, training, and projection of the tourist activity, and to integrate to the activity to the
inhabitants. For the effect this article presents the general aspects of the canton, the tourist attractiveness that
attract bigger demand or the most grateful among their inhabitants, the summary of the existenttourist plant to the
moment in Echeandía and their capacity, and finally shows the results of the proposal of creation of a department
of tourism in their municipality.

1. Introducción
En la sierra ecuatoriana en la provincia de Bolívar
está ubicado elcantón Echeandía, un lugar cuya
economía está basada mayoritariamente en la actividad
agropecuaria; sin embargo, Echeandía junto con los

demás cantones de su provincia está catalogado como
uno de los más pobres del país y en comparación a
otras provincias desempeña una reducida actividad
turística.
