1) Background description
We are a group of 4 members, composed by 2 mechanical students and 2 others business students. We shared a common interest in mountains sports, that’s why we choose a mountain topic for our project.
The human always have to try to find the boundaries of the world and especially the geographical limit of the earth. People always tried to push everything tothe limits so they conquered more and more mountains looking for new opportunities and in that manner snow sports developed.
The mountains in winter were very difficult for the limited time and the big amount of snow. The solution was to use skis for climbing (less friction with soft snow) and going down more fast (save a lot of time).
In recent times there is a big need to find the balancebetween climbing and skiing and mix of those two fields of winter sports is still improving.
Nowadays, ski freeriders are always pushing the limits further. To be able to push these limits, they need to be well equipped. Therefore, we found an opportunity to develop a new system more efficient and competitive in all points. The users are mostly adults which love mountain and all the sports whichrefer to the mountain (hiking, climbing, skiing…). Most of them are expert skiers and already know the mountain and the sport.
For the last years, the mountains sports have been improved. Our topic will combine two of these sports: hiking and skiing; we exactly want to work on a ski touring. Firstly in the history, both sports were distinct and with the technology development we started to see skitouring combining hiking (or climbing) with a pair of skis. These new equipment offers new possibilities. The main goal of using ski touring is to ski in the wild without slopes and tracks; it can also be called freeride. The goal of our project is to optimize freedom while walking and control while going down. We do not include extreme skiing, only the freedom to move in the mountains.
We wantto direct the final product to skiers, climbers with ability to ski and freeriders that could enjoy the sport without expensive helicopter to ski from the top of the mountains.
We will use the existing products and take a closer look at the system used in telemark skiing, Nordic skiing and those especially manufactured for the ski touring.
As we concern the European market we take intoconsideration only those skiing conditions. No big heights, really low temperatures it will involve more sophisticated process and conditions simulation to be sure that everything will work. If we use the existing systems that are used on our continent then we have broad knowledge about the materials used and their specific features.
Key part of designing the system is to keep the natural movement of thefoot and leg all the time. Otherwise it will be very tiring to travel for long hours in that way.
Having all those points in mind we want to develop special product for the market and sell it, making virtual company that would do all the important research and the first steps that allow the new company to run on the market with brand new product.

2) Purpose
The purpose of this project isdesigning and developing a system for bindings and boots for ski touring, using new materials and new mechanics. Regarding to the business part, the objective is to fix the marketing mix of the company and build a communication campaign.
