The book of The Pearl teaches us to value people for who they are and not what they have.
The book of The Pearl is writing byJohn Steinbeck, he shows the different of the life. Kino is the good guy that loves his life, and the doctor is evil, he only loves the money.
Kino’s son isbitten by a scorpion, so Juana tries to extract the poison, but it doesn’t work, so Coyotito gets bad, and ʺKino had wonderful often at the iron in his patient, fragile wife. She, who was obedient and respectful and cheerful and patient, she could arch her back in child pain with hardly a cry. She could stand fatigue andhunger almost better than Kino himself. In the canoe she was like a strong man. And now she did a most surprising thingʺ (p. 6-7) Juana is a strong woman, but alsoshows us that can show weakness in this situation, and more in this case because the life of her first son is in danger. Although Juana is the strong pillar of thefamily, Kino tries to keep the force.
ʺThis doctor was of a race which for nearly four hundred years had beaten and starved and robbed and despised Kino’s race, and frightened it too, so that the indigene came humbly to the door ʺ (p. 9) The doctor shows his contempt for the indigene race, he see this people like people whodon’t care because they don’t have money, so for him don’t care if they die, just he serving for people that can pay. So this situation gets difficult for Kino andJuana because they don’t have money to pay for the serving of the doctor. So they take his canoe and go to search a pearl, for pay to the doctor and save Coyotito.
