CRITICAL EVALUATION OF CONSUMER PRODUCT

The product being used in this ad is Human chorionic gonadotropin, also known as HCG. This product is notsupported by scientific evidence. Although the ad states that this product is FDA approved, which is true but it is not FDA approved for weight loss purposes. HCG is a hormone that is formed by the placenta,this hormone is also found in urine of pregnant women. The FDA approved this product as a prescription drug for the treatment of female infertility and some other conditions, but as an injectableprescription only. The ad is directed to over weight people, it doesn’t specify an age but do to law abidance the appropriate age is 18 years and older. The study of HCG by the FDA had a couple of flawsbut clearly stated the reasons why the product had not been approved. One of the flaws was that it didn’t specify what the side affects would be if HCG were to be used for weight loss. Another was thatit stated that there were ‘other medical conditions that HCG was used for but never stated them. The study was vague. This study was appropriate for the ad because it clarified that the FDA had notapproved HCG for weight loss purposes but it had approved it for different purposes. The ad is a scam, like many others that report that the FDA have approved their product, but use it at theiradvantage to use the product for different purposes.
The FDA, didn’t specify that the consumption would make any contribution to the consumer’s physique, but it was said in the ad that it mustbe taken with a low calorie intake which obviously results in natural weight loss. Some effects that can come from low calorie diets are: gallstone formation, electrolyte imbalance, and heartarrhythmias.
