Pachacutej, dios de todas las cosas y Hacedor Supremo, dispuso en cierta ocasión que el Sol y la Luna, siempre tan distantes el uno del otro, tuvieran contacto, siquiera por unos momentos, y se conocieran para entablar amistad. Y tal como lo dispusosucedió. El Sol y la Luna se acercaron, y los hombres, entonces, ajenos a los designios del Supremo Hacedor, comprobaron únicamente que una enorme mancha oscura aparecía sobre la superficie del astro rey. Esta sombra, que aterrorizó a todos los humanos, persistió mientras la Luna y el Sol estuvieron juntos para conocerse y amarse. Antes de separarse, nacieron de sus amores dos hijos: un varón, fuerte ydorado de piel, y una delicada y pálida doncella de misteriosa belleza.
