Diabetes

Diabetes is an endocrine system disorder. It affects the rate of metabolism of glucose in the body. The natural process of glucose being broken down by the body is that we eat the food;the food gets broken down, glucose then goes into the bloodstream and enters the cell with the aid of insulin. Insulin comes from the pancreas and is released the bloodstream so that glucose can beused as energy by the cell. However a person who has diabetes does not produce little to no insulin allowing the sugar to stay in the blood stream allowing the cells to starves.

There are twodifferent types of diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2, however I am going to speak about Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is actually called “Juvinile Diabetes”. Juvinile diabetes is called that because, peoplegenerally get it when they are young. Type 1 diabetics are insulin dependent. That means they cannot survive without taking insulin since their pancreas no longer produces insulin. Without insulin, aperson will die. The immune system in your body is supposed to protect your body from outside germs that can make you sick. Type 1 diabetes is a disorder that is caused by the immune system attackingthe pancreas. Doctors still are not sure what causes the immune system to attack the pancreas and cause Type 1 diabetes. The pancreas is an organ in your body that produces insulin to regulate yourblood sugar or blood glucose.

People with diabetes have more than one way of dealing with it. The first way of treating diabetes is by taking insulin injections, in shot form. If you are beingtreated this way you must take on average about three shots a day. You must inject insulin before every meal or snack, and also to correct if you have a high blood sugar reading. Another problem thathappens to diabetics is hypoglycemia, better known as low blood sugar. It is very dangerous. Some people can feel when their blood sugar is too low, unfortunately others can not.
