Halloween is a Holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holyday of AllSaints`Day. The day is often associated with the colours orange and black, and is strongly associated with symbols such as the jack-o`-lantern. Halloweenactivities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes, ghost tours, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o`-lanterns, readingscary stories, and watching horror movies. The children wear costumes and go around to each house saying : “trick-or-treat”, to ask for candy.

Theancient Celts believed that on October 31st, now known as Halloween, the dead come back to the living world and become dangerous for the living by causingproblems such as sickness or damaged crops. Costumes and masks being worn at Halloween goes back to the Celtic traditions of attempting to copy the evilspirits, in Scotland for instance where the dead were impersonated by young men masked, veiled or blackened faces, dressed in white.

The world Halloweencomes from the English expression “All Hollow`s eve” (All Saints`Day). 2500 years ago the Celtic Thought that during the last day of summer (on October31st), the spirits of the dead could come back and enter a human body and come back to life. To avoid it, the Celtic people would decorate their houseswith bones, death bodies, and jack-o`-lanterns. It is because of this that nowadays people decorate their houses and wear costumes on October 31st.
