Identificación Y Evaluación De Sitios Potencialmente Contaminados Por Compuestos Orgánicos Persistentes En La Ecorregión Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta, Departamento Del Magdalena. I
1
ABSTRACT The Eco-region of Sierra Nevada in Santa Marta (SNSM) is ofgreat socioeconomic importance for the Department of Magdalena because of the agroindustrial activity. For years, pesticides have been used indiscriminately; among them the Persistent Organic Pollutants POPs, highly detrimental for human and environmental health. The present work identifies the activities that have been developed in the past and those developed at present, as well as the possiblefocus of contamination due to the POP handling in the Ecorregion. Besides, it establishes a prime list of 19 sites potentially contaminated by POP regarding its proximity to populated towns and environmental components of interest, and the conceptual risk model to each activity identified as potential sources for these components. Most of these sites have a historic use of obsolete pesticides such asthe Aldrin in the towns of Ciénaga and Zona Bananera, as well as the potential emission of dioxins and furans proceeding from the production of handcrafted bricks in different sectors of Rio Frio.
