Questions for Session 3 (Theme - Listening and Speaking)

1. Give 3 examples of Listening and/or Speaking activities that are in harmony with the CLT approach.- To simulate the purchase of a house. One of the students is the seller and the other one will have to talk about his/her preferences about his/her ideal house.
- To show a flash cardwith a certain situation and talk about it.
- In pairs an interviewer and the other an interviewee.

2. What are ‘Individual Characteristics’?
- The learner must get the highest possiblelinguistic competence. He must be able to manipulate the linguistic system in order to use it in a spontaneous and flexible way, to express his intended message.
- The learner must distinguish between: theforms he has already mastered as part of his linguistic competence, and the communicative functions which perform. In other words, items mastered as part of a linguistic system must also be understoodas part of a communicative system.
- The learner must develop skills and strategies for using language to communicate meaning as effectively as possible in concrete situations. He must learn to usefeedback to judge his success. If it is necessary, to correct his own mistakes by using a different language.
- The learner must be aware of the social meaning of language forms. For many learners,this may not imply the ability to vary their own speech to suit different social circumstances, but rather the ability to use generally acceptable forms and avoid potentially offensive ones.
3. Which‘Individual Characteristics’ must be taken into account in the activities you listed in your first answer?
From my point of view all of them are necessary. Learners must acquire all the skills proposedin question 2.
