The integration of immigrants in Chile

According to the Oxford Advanced Dictionary (2012), ‘immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country’.This is a process that arises in parallel with the existence of human beings. The history shows us that through the years a series of continuous movements made by different people in order to findbetter conditions to live.
Related to the legal aspect aliens may enter Chile as tourists, residents, official residents and immigrants (section 4, decree n°69). Permanent residence is the permitgranted to aliens wishing to reside for an indefinite period in the country and undertake any type of activity, without any restrictions other than those established by legal regulations (section 41,article 5). If we consider the information previously mentioned we can establish that Chile has not major requirements in order to be a citizen that is way immigrant integration in our country has been ina constant increase.
The increase of immigration is one of the most controversial issues in politics, economics and social development of contemporary Chile.  The country began to receive moreimmigrants from the second half of the 90’s. (Fernandez, C. 2009). That was caused by a combination of internal and external factors that resulted in the arrival of new citizens from this country ina number never seen before since 1995.
The main causes which led to this increase are typically related to best prospects for a professional development, best job opportunities -mainly favoured by agreater political and economic stability - and administrative ease to enter Chile in a legal and safe way.
