17 Portable Generator

Task 1 List the different ways in which electricity can be generated.

-Photovoltaic cell.
-Wind turbine.
-Generator set.

Task 2 Study the diagram below of a portable generator. Answer these
questions using the diagram and your own knowledge of engineering.

What are its main parts? The engine, thealternator and the fuel tank.

What does the engine run on? The engine runs on fuel, but this model hasn´t starter motor, this model is starting to hand.

What are the four strokes called? It is called to the four times or phases of the piston.

What is the funtion of the crankshaft? The funtion of the crankshaft is to transmit rotary motion to the alternator.What do both stator and rotor have? Stator and rotor have windings.

What is the difference between stator and rotor? The difference between stator and rotor is that stator is in extern part and the rotor are the coils in the crankshaft of the alternator.

Task 3 Read this text to check as many of the answers as you can. You will
not find complete answer to all of thequestions.

1- The main parts of the generator are an engine, which powers the equipment,
and an alternator, which converts motion into electricity.
2- The engine runs on petrol. It is estarted by pulling a cord.
3- It is the cycle of the piston.
4- The function of the crankshaft is extends directly to an alternator.
5- Both have windings-coil of insulated cooper.
6-Stator is in a fixed position and shaped like a broad ring and the rotor is fixed
to the rotaring crankshaft.

Generador Portatil

Aunque la mayoría de la electricidad proviene de centrales eléctricas, la corriente también puede ser generada por medios mucho máspequeños. Hoy en día los generadores eléctricos pueden ser lo suficientemente pequeños como para sostenerlos en la mano.

Los generadores portátiles se componen de dos partes principales: un motor, que acciona el equipo y un alternador, que convierte el movimiento en electricidad.

El motor mostrado en la (fig 1) funciona con gasolina. Se arranca tirando de un cordón. Esto crea una chispa ensu interior que inflama la mezcla de combustible.

En un motor de 4 tiempos típico, cuando el pistón desciende, la válvula de entrada de aire se abre y una mezcla de aire y gasolina es aspirada a través del carburador.

La válvula se cierra, el pistón se eleva en la carrera de compresión y una chispa dentro de la cámara alta inflama la mezcla. Esta mini-explosión empuja el pistón haciaabajo, y como sube de nuevo los humos formados por la ignición son forzados a salir a través de la válvula de escape.

Este ciclo es repetido muchas veces por segundo. El movimiento del pistón hace que el cigüeñal gire a gran velocidad.

1.- Logic Probe: Is used for testing of digital sygnal in the electronic
circuit. Is posibol begin this instrumen integrated in a multimeter.

2.-Function generator: Is used for obtaing a patron sygnal knowledge

3.- Oscilloscope: Is used to measure fast-moving signals.

4.- Multimeter: Is used to measure a number or different electrical
quantities, such as voltage, current, and resistance.
