Jane Austen, a Silent Heroine
Every human being, even since its birth, has the potential to become a hero. It may seem awkward to believe anybody could reach such high honor. Ordinary people whoset and follow a quest can end up being heroes for the people around them and the ones who come after them. Well-known heroes have usually been people of great speeches and/or actions that havesoundly marked their space in history and have been recognized by the masses. The not so boisterous heroes or silent heroes have made a difference in the world through their writings, their music, theirart or other humble and more passive actions that have affected many people’s perspective of life. In such a technological and fast moving world, it is no wonder that silent heroes tend to beforgotten or unrecognized by humanity. Jane Austen, one of the greatest novelists of all times, is the perfect example of a silent heroine. She possesses the hero’s qualities of courage, wisdom, andperseverance.
Jane Austen’s courage comes from the background she received from her family’s misfortunes, travels and joyfulness in the simple things of life. She grew up in a country family filled withsmall duties and uncomplicated entertaining, far away from the cities where England’s high society lived. Women in the eighteenth century had very limited activities, especially country women.Besides their domestic duties, they sang, played piano, and drew. Jane Austen contradicted this expected behavior spending all of her free time in a more intellectual and creative activity, writing books.Her whole family supported her in this adventure; even her father bought Jane her first writing desk. Austen wrote during the Romanticism era. However, she wanted to change how other writers usedthe theme of love. Instead of the idealized love, Austen presented love as close to real life as possible. This idea is very well shown in her novels, Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice....
